You know when you meet someone and you just know that you will be friends forever? This is how I felt when I first met Jamie. We sat at Starbucks for hours and chatted about her baby that was due within the next couple months, family, work, and what it will be like when she becomes a mama. Baby Madison was her and her husband's first baby. They were so excited to meet their baby, Madison. They knew what outfit they were going take her home in, where they were going to deliver her, and she wanted it all captured.

Jamie was planning an all natural birth at Beach Cities Midwifery in Laguna Beach, and was going to have the help of her amazing doula Whitney at Nurture Birth to assist her. She planned a peaceful and intimate birth with those closest to her and going home immediately following.

After days and days of birth waves in early labor, her birth plans changed. Monday morning at 6:00 a.m., they arrived at the local hospital and started preparing her body for the labor process.

With the entire birth team surrounding her, they were ready to help her bring this baby girl into the world. Sometimes during birth plans don't go as planned. As parents we have to make decisions that is best for the welfare of our children. At that moment, the health of Jamie and Madison were their top priority, which led to them being able to meet her little girl via cesarian.
Just 30 minutes later they heard her cry for the first time.

At 5:06 a.m., Tuesday morning, Madison was born.

Jamie was strong, and I saw strength in her husband as he supported her. They went through a whirlwind of emotions and change of plans that made them question many things...when they got to hold Madison for the first time, they were in love. Those scars that we bare as mothers are wounds that tell stories. This is a story that she will hold close for years to come.
